A special alum and friend to so many ❤️….

Marta Mitchell, 68, of Erie, PA, passed away on February 14, 2022 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Marta was born on 7/6/53 to Zdzislaw & Emilia Zychowicz in Syracuse, NY.

After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, she went on to obtain a bachelors in sociology and human services at Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA and loved to recall her days in the Kujawiaki Polish Dance ensemble there.

After graduation, Marta began a long and successful career in Human Resources and most recently held the title VP of HR at Lakeshore Communities in Erie, PA where she was incredibly passionate about their mission and built a wonderful and supportive work family.

After college, Marta made a home in Cambridge Springs, PA where she married William Mitchell in 1975 and raised two sons, Jason and Michael – her pride and joy.

Widowed in 2011, Marta moved to Erie, PA and made a wonderful life for herself where she lived by the motto “Everything Happens for a Reason” and made a conscious effort to make the best out of every situation. Marta loved good music, especially AC/DC, a good strong beer or martini, shopping, travel, and was a true cat lover.

She was an active and proud voice in suicide prevention and vulvar cancer awareness groups. But most of all, Marta loved her family. Her favorite times were spent visiting and laughing with her two sons, their wives, and her two grandsons.

Marta was preceded in death by her parents Zdzislaw & Emilia Zychowicz, and husband William Mitchell. She is survived by her sons Jason (Kelly) Mitchell of Erie, PA and Michael (Sarah) Mitchell of Chicago IL and her two grandsons, Merritt and Levi Mitchell; Brother, Edward (Shannon) Zychowicz and sister Regina (Keith) Morris and many nieces and nephews on both the Zychowicz and Mitchell side of the family.

At Marta’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service at this time – the family will notify loved ones as a celebration of life is scheduled in the future. Instead, in honor of February being Vulvar cancer awareness month, please educate yourself on, and place a donation to Foundation of Women’s Cancer (https://www.foundationforwomenscancer.org/…/cancer-…/vulvar/)
