 Nora Lynne Bruniany

Nora Lynne Bruniany, nee Shuler, 70, of Cranberry Township, PA, passed away on February 25, 2022, after a brief illness. Nora, or “Lynne,” was born on July 26, 1951, to James and Virginia Shuler, nee Stone, in Mercer, PA.

She spent her formative years on the family farm in New Lebanon, inspiring her lifelong love of gardening. She graduated summa cum laude from New Castle High School in 1969 and earned a full scholarship to Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA.

Inspired by her favorite movie, Dr. Zhivago, she studied Polish and Slavic Languages and performed with Kujawiaki, the college’s traditional Polish dance troupe.

In 1972, she received a full scholarship from the Kosciuszko Foundation to study abroad at the historic Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, where she further immersed herself in Polish history and culture, becoming fluent in the Polish language.

While living abroad, she married Casimir Bruniany and started a family. They returned to the United States five years later. Nora was well-traveled and visited many countries in Europe, Asia, and South America. Always intellectual and curious, she loved history, culture, music, world cuisine, literature and gardening. She could also talk to anyone at length about these topics with her near photographic memory.

She also devoted herself to teaching her children and grandchildren about their Polish heritage and culture by carrying on traditions she learned while in Poland. Nora was kind and generous to her family, friends and everyone she met.

Nora is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved uncle, Jacob Henry Shuler. She is survived by her three children: Damian (Delia) Bruniany of San Diego, CA; Nicole (Scott) Sloka of Zelienople, PA; and Julie (Jonathan) Kirk of Edinboro, PA; and her nine grandchildren: James, Kaitlynn, Orion, Mary, Jude, Asher, Mathieu, David, and Finley. A private memorial service is planned by the family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Boylan Funeral Home, Inc., 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063.
