Paul Douglas Popovich passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021. He was born Sept. 9, 1945, in Natrona Heights, to the late Paul and Irene (Dzilenski) Popovich. Paul graduated from Leechburg Area High School and Alliance College. During his career, he designed and had manufactured automobile shredding equipment, including the first “No Air” sorting system for the recycling industry. His design work is included in four patents. He traveled the world installing and servicing these systems. Before his retirement, he and son, Matthew, designed and constructed insulated concrete houses that were extremely energy efficient. Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Tygielski) Popovich; a daughter, Chris Puls; a son, Matthew Popovich (Julie); and four grandchildren, Adam, Alexander, Austin and Ava. Also surviving are his sisters, Marene (James) Rovnak and Susan (Harry) Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Michael Puls. At the request of the family, services will be private.
