The Beta Beta Chapter of the Sigma Tau Gamma social fraternity at Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, operated from January 31, 1959, until 1988, when the college closed.

Sigma Tau Gamma has a WWI Connection as it was started by a group of World War I veterans who desired to maintain the deep bonds of brotherhood and camaraderie they experienced while serving together in France.

The six core principles of Sigma Tau Gamma are Learning, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Citizenship, and Brotherhood. These values guide the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity in building noble generations of men who endeavor forward.

The Knight: The depiction of the knight is historically integrated directly into the top portion of the Coat of Arms crest as a helmet. It symbolizes honor, chivalry, and the “noble generations of men” the organization strives to build.

Annual Traditions & Celebrations

Brothers of the Beta Beta Chapter famously built a chariot and pulled it roughly nine miles from Alliance College to Edinboro State College (home of the Beta Omega Chapter of Sig Tau) in April 1969.

The White Rose Formal: The white rose is the official flower of the fraternity. Annually, the chapter hosted a formal banquet and dance under this name. A traditional song titled “Rose of Sigma Tau” was sung, and a chapter “White Rose Sweetheart” was crowned to serve as the official hostess for the year.

Parents & Family Days: Chapters traditionally hosted a “Dad’s Day” or a broader Parents Weekend once a semester or year to acclimate families to the fraternity house and social programs

Annual Thanksgiving Dinner: Celebrating the upcoming holiday a week before Thanksgiving break which included Cambridge Springs Borough Officials, our neighbors, the Alliance College Administration & Faculty, and selected guests.

Service Projects: Donating firewood to our elderly neighbors and letting the Cambridge Springs Fire Department hold periodic fire safety meetings at the house.

Pledge kidnapping: Test of fortitude to adapt, improvise and overcome.

Parties with live bands: Sig Tau’s held the first Saturday night party of the Fall semester with a band! Throughout the academic year, Sig Tau’s had parties that lasted days!

Notable areas of the house include the Coke Machine, which was stocked 24/7 with always cold 16-oz. Bombers; the Party Room that featured a great dance floor with barnwood paneling – it was indestructible! And we cannot forget the fireplace, the phone room, the front porch, and the ghost room, and making pierogies in the kitchen.

Additional traditions needed: Sigma Tau Gamma alumni are encouraged to share memories of chapter parties, dinners, dances, Greek Week activities, service projects, athletic rivalries and other annual events.
